Raspberry Chia Jam Toast (Printable)

A wholesome toast topped with sweet, flavorful raspberry chia jam and optional fresh toppings.

# What You'll Need:

→ Raspberry Chia Jam

01 - 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
02 - 2 tablespoons chia seeds
03 - 1.5 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey if not vegan)
04 - 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

→ Toast

05 - 2 slices whole grain or gluten-free bread
06 - 1 tablespoon plant-based butter or regular butter (optional)

→ Optional Toppings

07 - Fresh raspberries
08 - Sliced banana
09 - Coconut flakes
10 - Chopped nuts
11 - Fresh mint leaves

# How To Make It:

01 - Place raspberries in a small saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries break down and release juices, approximately 3 to 5 minutes.
02 - Mash the raspberries to your preferred consistency using a fork or potato masher.
03 - Stir in chia seeds and maple syrup, continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes, then remove from heat. If using, add vanilla extract and mix well.
04 - Allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes to thicken. If the jam becomes too thick, add one teaspoon of water to loosen it.
05 - Toast the bread slices to your desired crispness.
06 - Optionally spread plant-based or regular butter on the warm toast.
07 - Generously spread the prepared raspberry chia jam over the toasted bread.
08 - Top with fresh raspberries, sliced banana, coconut flakes, chopped nuts, or fresh mint leaves as preferred and serve immediately.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The jam thickens itself without any pectin fussiness, thanks to the chia seeds doing all the heavy lifting.
  • You can make a batch and have it waiting in your fridge for up to five days of easy mornings.
  • It tastes homemade and special but requires almost no skill—even if you've never made jam before, this works.
02 -
  • Frozen raspberries work just as well as fresh ones and sometimes better, since they're already softer and break down faster.
  • Don't skip the five-minute rest—that's when the chia seeds absorb the liquid and turn everything from a loose berry mixture into actual jam.
03 -
  • Mashing the berries to different consistencies gives you control over texture—go chunkier if you want to taste individual berries, or mash finer if you prefer a smoother spread.
  • The vanilla extract is optional, but if you use it, add it after cooking so the heat doesn't steal its delicate flavor.
